Exploration?

In Someone Finally Asks Why I discuss McNight's article on reasons to actually be in space. As a result of that article I setup that poll over there below the main menu. So far the “Exploration” category is leading the list. I find this extremely interesting because so far I've heard so many different definitions to the word that its almost meaningless. Since I'm completely baffled by it, I'd love to see a discussion on what others are thinking about when they suggest the purpose is “space exploration”.
